Shanghai Show: MG Rover's MG6 to Enter Production in 2010

At the Shanghai Auto Show, SAIC Motors' MG division presented its first all-new model since acquiring the rights to the British firm's brand name in 2005. The sporty looking MG6 Concept, which is in fact a near production model that is scheduled to enter the Chinese market in 2010, was penned in the U.K. The five-door fastback is heavily based on the Roewe 550 four-door sedan which in turn uses a modified version of the old Rover 75's front-wheel drive platform and 1.8-liter K-Series engines.

Just like the 550, the production MG6 will be offered with naturally aspirated and turbocharged 1.8-liter gasoline engines producing 130 and 160-horsepower respectively. Power will be transferred to the front wheels via 5-speed manual or automatic transmissions.

Though not officially confirmed, rumor has it that MG's Chinese parent is considering to bring the MG6 initially in the U.K., and if the circumstances allow it, to other major European markets also.

MG Rover MG6 Concept Based on Roewe 550 to Debut in Shanghai

Having already announced the Roewe N1 Concept, China's Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation (SAIC) that owns the rights to the MG Rover brand, revealed that its 2009 Shanghai Auto Show booth will also host the world premiere of the MG6 Concept. The five-door liftback model is based on the underpinnings of the Roewe 550 which was designed as SAIC's successor to the Rover 45.

Although details are still sketchy, the MG6 will most likely lead to a production version that might very well find its way into Europe where MG Rover already sells the resurrected TF LE500 in the U.K.

Powertrain options for the MG6 will be identical to those offered in the Roewe 550 including a 1.8-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder petrol engine.

Roewe W2: Shanghai concept previews Roewe’s forthcoming compact sedan

Roewe, or in other words Rover’s Chinese spouse presented a brand new concept at this year’s Shanghai Show, the W2 sedan which was penned by former MG Rover designers and SAIC's own team. Even though it’s more than obvious that the design team took a peek or two in the Toyota/Lexus range, you’ve have to admit that the W2 actually looks quite good and has nothing to do with most of the dull-looking, mixed-grilled creations you usually see from Chinese car makers.

According to SAIC owned Roewe, the Ford Focus Sedan sized W2 will go into production towards the end of the year with international sales staring in 2008. The W2 will be Roewe’s second model after the launch of the Rover 75 derived, 750E.

Three Zero-Mileage 2004 MG-Rovers Auctioned in the UK

Even though the MG Rover Group ceased production in 2005, one can still find cars of the British brand with zero mileage. On Friday, 21 December, three 2004 MY MG Rovers that hade been kept in storage and never previously made available for sale, where auctioned by BCA on behalf of car retail group Inchcape.

All three cars were scarce or unusual examples, with the Rover 75 V8 (powered by a Mustang 4.6 litre V8 engine) being the most unique. The model on offer was finished in dark metallic blue with leather interior and sold for £16,000 (approx $31,600 or €21,500).

Second up was the Rover 75 Limousine, one of a limited number produced on the long-wheel base version of the 75 chassis. It was finished in light metallic grey with dark grey leather interior and it sold for £13,400 (approx $26,400 or €17,960)

Finally, there was the MG TF 160 roadster which was finished in metallic blue with black hood and leather interior. It sold for £11,000 (approx $21,700 or €14,700).

ROEWE 750E: SAIC reveals official pics of it's Rover 75 based sedan

Before some of you start screaming "COPY CAT", know that this Rover 75 based sedan is 100% legitimate. The owner of the newly established ROEWE car company is Shanghai Automotive Industrial Corp (SAIC) and it has bought the intellectual property rights to build Rover's 75 in 2005.

The 750E will be officially unveiled at the Beijing Auto show, which runs from Nov 17 to 28 and there are rumors that SAIC has plans to export the 750E to Europe and the US in the near future. Mmm, I wonder if ROEWE is pronounced "Rong Wei" in Chinese... Via: Jalopnik

Roewe N1 Concept Sketches Surface on the Net

SAIC's renamed Rover division, Roewe, plans to unveil a new near-to-production concept car codenamed N1 at the 2009 Shanghai Auto Show that runs from April 20 to 28.
